Hello in September,

I am Olle and I will be here from now on sharing all the initiatives happening around Gamedev Camp. As always, for you to take part in anything described below, you need a Community Tier for a single entry fee of EYR 30.

1. Write your own Game Engine with David and Ruta

It has started and you're welcome to join anytime. Here's the github and pull requests are welcome but in fact you don't have to pair-program or do something else, yet you can join, watch and try to understand what's going on.

Especially useful for 3D artists who complain why your art looks good in Blender or Maya but very mediocre in Unity or Unreal.

2. A game from the Camp funded on Kickstarter

Rea Budić and her amazing team got their game funded on Kickstarter in just 6 days. We are very happy and invite you all to wishlist this game inspired by Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Studio Ghibli on Steam.

3. How to generate sprites with DALL-E

Паляничка impressed everyone with a guide on how to use AI to generate sprites that look nice and can be used for rapid prototypes. Join the discussion and share what you can do using this process.

4. A team looking for a programmer

One of the teams in the Camp is working on a grid based tactical rpg aiming for it to look/feel like on the picture. They've started their work with Unreal and are looking for one more programmer to join the team since their lead programmer cannot dedicate much time to the game for a while. Consider joining?

5. Community things

  • Krzysztof shared a huge guide about the basics of mixing for games and basics of UX sound design.

  • Wojtek wrote a nice longread about horror, stealth, and player's agency since this is the kind of game they're working on in the Camp.

  • Julia keeps her weekly hangout for artists and they love it.

  • Rei is looking for more games to run through his QA processes.

  • Hedenite team made an animation short that was screened at Linoleum festival in Kyiv will be screened again at Kyiv International Short Film festival

6. DevGAMM has a $100,000 prize pool

While you have 12 days to apply. I am on the jury and will help to play and pick games. Deadline - September 30. Check the rules and apply!

7. Business Camp Season 2...

A fun fact for those who read until the end. Basically, I run Business Camp where I help emerging indie studios figure out their story, package it into a pitch deck and raise funding. For the Season 1 I partnered with several games incubators in Europe to cover the participation in Business Camp for their best teams. I wanted to use the same model for Season 2 but instead the games incubators I talked to asked me to build a Games Incubator Camp to help them start a program similar to ours! And I think I will agree.

I am baffled yet proud. Just wanted to share this so you write something good for me in the comments if you've been a part of Gamedev Camp in any way and enjoyed your experience

8. Alumni talking to each other on DOU

Just enjoying Anna from Season 2 interviewing Les from Season 3 on, what I understand, is the biggest games media in Ukraine. Lovely!
