1. Entry test - create a Fairy Tale

The magic of studying at Gamedev Camp in many ways comes from all the amazing people in your future study group. These people will be your buddies and colleagues for the next three months, so you want to enjoy working with them. To match you well, we need to know you a little better.

This is why we're asking you to create a Fairy Tale

Lera and I feel that it should be fun for you to create a Fairy Tale because it resembles what game designers do.

You can create a Fairy Tale in your style and your way - text, audio, video, comics, a game demo or even a PowerPoint presentation - however you feel comfortable.

We review applications daily and provide feedback so you have a second or even a third chance to get in. It should not be very hard or stressful for you. Try to show the best version of yourself and your creativity.

  • It is not a competition

  • Your creativity is more important than the production value

  • The earlier you apply, the earlier you get a reply that you've been admitted to Gamedev Camp

  • You don't need to pay anything until we get back to you that your application has been successful and you've been selected to join the cohort

The tuition fee is 650 EUR for 12 weeks.
  • You can pay 230 EUR per month if it is more convenient for you

  • Your company may cover your tuition fee, we'd issue an invoice to pay

  • When you've been admitted to Gamedev Camp you'll have a week to settle the payment as a bank transfer or with another method that works for you

One of our sponsors may choose to cover your study costs

We pitch our best students to our partners. If our partner decides to cover your tuition fee, we'll reimburse you after you have completed your studies.

You and your friend get a 50% discount if both of you get admitted

It is more fun to study with someone you know. Invite your friend to apply and submit a Fairy Tale. If both of you get admitted, each of you will have to pay only 325 EUR for 12 weeks of studies.

On the last page of the survey, there's a place to put your friend's name. If you somehow miss it or if your friend joins later, just email us and we'll settle the discount with both of you.

How it feels to study at Gamedev Camp

We assume you have a lot on your plate - jobs, kids, other studies and life itself. We optimize everything so you can enjoy the process and be happy about the final result.

Game design program assumes you spend about 60-90 minutes every day to succeed with your studies. This includes three weekly calls that you're expected to show up on:

  • The class + new homework

  • The check-in with mentors and experts

  • Homework check

Everything happens in Discord, so you can join calls from your phone. You'll have a group chat, a chat with experts and a lounge zone post your cat pictures and chill.

You won't have access to mentors and experts all the time. Instead, you will work with your immediate group and have a weekly synch with mentors and experts. Lera and I are generally available for you to resolve issues and help with anything you may need.

Overall, think about Gamedev Camp as an online version of a summer camp - you're there to enjoy the process, learn new skills, find friends and end up being a better version of yourself.

Getting a new job, starting an indie games company, becoming an all-star game designer - these are possible outcomes if you decide to pursue them.

Expected results from your studies

The main result is that you feel the game design process and can understand if you'd love to pursue a career in game development, start an own games studio or keep it as a hobby.

We designed our curriculum so you can also get:

  • Boosted up soft skills - communications, giving and getting feedback

  • Tuned up hard skills - know what you like doing and what you don't

  • Industry connections - mentors, experts, HRs, alumni community

  • Your dream game pitch - you understand what you'd love to make sometime

  • Demo Day - HRs come to see and possibly hire you

  • Recommendation letter and CV - we help you package yourself for the jobs market

Can you become a game designer after completing the course?

It depends on what you can do and what you want to do. Game designers in one company do the math and run spreadsheets on game balance. In another company, game designers distribute boxes and trees on levels. Then in the third company game designers type in "go there, fetch that" kind of optional quests.

After our course, you'll understand what you can do, and what are the market opportunities for you. Or maybe you decide to go indie and make a game of your own.

2. Fill in a survey and link to your created Fairy Tale

The deadline for your Fairy Tale is March 14. But we really encourage you to apply earlier to get feedback and to learn that you have been admitted to Gamedev Camp.

When you have your Fairy Tale ready, upload it to your Google Drive, Dropbox or wherever it is convenient for you and get a link to it. You will need the link to your Fairy Tale at the end of the application form.

The Submit your Fairy Tale button below launches a survey about your skills. We use the survey to match you with your future team in a way that would make the most sense for yourself and your teammates. So please be super honest in the survey.

If you have any questions - you're welcome to reply to this email or email team@gamedev.camp - we do our best to reply within one business day.
